DRAW: Mexico City Museo de la Ciudad de Mexico June 19 - August 15, 2010 Curated by Erik Foss and Curse Mackey Opening Reception: June 19 7:30pm Press Conference with Curse Mackey, Erik Foss, Neckface, Carlo McCormick, Miguel Calderon is scheduled for 11AM Fri. June 19th DRAW is the largest contemporary drawing exhibition to emerge out of New York City. It is a must-see art exhibition featuring original drawings by more than 450 artists in the illustration, graffiti, tattoo, literature, design, animation, skateboard, music, psychedelic art worlds. The show is a tribute to the often-underrated but fundamental building block of visual and graphic art: the drawing. Artists whose original works are in the show include : Raymond Pettibon, Tom Sachs, Chris Johanson, Terence Koh, Dan Colen, Swoon, Aurel Schmidt, Benjamin Cho, Ozzy Osbourne, DAZE, Karen O (Yeah Yeah Yeahs), R. Crumb, Alex Grey, HR Giger, Clive Barker, Robert Williams, Wes Lang ,Eric White, Rich Jacobs, Barry McGee, Rick Griffin, Ron English, Neck Face, Tim Biskup, Ed Templeton, Mark Gonzales, Jack Rudy, Derek Hess, David Byrne, Mark Dean Veca, Gerard Way (My Chemical Romance), Kevin Long/Spanky, Hank Williams III, WK Interact, Shawn Barber, Doze Green, Kevin Llewellyn, Tara McPherson, Les Claypool and many, many more. After four years of gallery exhibitions, DRAW will have it's museum debut at Museo de la Cuidad de Mexico, one of Mexico City's finest museums. The opening is on June 19, 2010 and will exhibit through August 15, 2010. To coincide with the exhibition, the museum will be publishing a book for worldwide distribution to contemporary museum bookstores around the world. Carlo McCormick, one of the most respected art writers and curators in the U.S. will be writing an introductory essay for the book. DRAW debuted in October of 2006 at NYC’s Fuse Gallery to phenomenal response from audience and press alike. It had an equally impressive showing during the SXSW 2007 Music, Film + Interactive Festival in Austin, Texas. It was the most well-attended opening to date for East London’s leading contemporary art gallery, StolenSpace and most recently, the exhibit drew over 2000 people to its San Francisco debut at Shooting Gallery. Miguel Calderon curated a select group of contemporary artists from Mexico to participate in DRAW. Their work will remain in the collection as DRAW is currently on a world tour with future showings in Tokyo, Paris, Milan, Vienna, Los Angeles, Barcelona and Berlin. DRAW is planned as a 15-year project that will continue to evolve throughout the years as a collective conscious of creativity. DRAW is curated by Erik Foss and Curse Mackey with guest curators Tim Barber, Miguel Calderon, Joseph Ian Henrikson, Lisa Lebofsky, Jacaeber Kastor, Justin Giarla, Jamie O’Shea, Matt Campbell, Damian Weinkrantz, Les Barany, Sto, D* Face, Jonathan LeVine, Tony Cox, Nikki Sneakers. Muestra de dibujo contemporáneo * Más de 500 dibujos realizados por igual número de artistas de las más diversas latitudes.
* La muestra itinerará por el mundo los próximos quince años; a lo largo del tiempo se agregarán obras gráficas del país en que se presente.
* Incluye trabajos de 34 artistas mexicanos seleccionados por el curador Miguel Calderón.
Draw es una exhibición compuesta por dibujos de más de 500 artistas de la ilustración, graffiti, tatuaje, literatura, diseño, animación, música, cultura popular, psicodelia y otras disciplinas. DRAW se plantea como un tributo al bloque visual del arte gráfico construido a través del dibujo. La exposición, curada por Erik Foss y Curse Mackey se presentará en el Museo de la Ciudad de México.
La inauguración se llevará a cabo el 19 de junio de 2010 y estará en exhibición hasta el 15 de agosto de 2010. |
